Tarpaulin Sky Book & Web Design Services

Tarpaulin Sky provides book and web design for writers, literary journals, and literary organizations.

Book Design — We can assist in all stages of pre-press, from interior layout to cover design to purchasing ISBNs and barcodes. For examples of our work, please feel free to explore the above links to our own Tarpaulin Sky Press trade paperback (and hand-made) editions, or take a look at a recent project of which we're particularly proud—If These Streets Could Talk, an anthology of poetry and prose that we designed for NY Writers Coalition, a vital nonprofit organization for groups that have been historically deprived of voice in our society.

Web Design — We can help authors establish their first presence on the Web, or upgrade an author's older website. We can help would-be web-editors create their online literary journal, or we can establish a web presence for a web journal that only exists in print. Please take a look through our own journal's archives for a sampling of ideas. Recently, author Jan Clausen asked us to develop a fairly comprehensive site that is designed around photography by Yarrott Benz, that uses simple fonts, and that includes a blog as well as excerpts from her published books and her novel in-progress. Author Bea Gates discovered (as many of us do) that all she really wanted was a blog—but a custom blog that would not only look but function in the way she required. Web design, as with any design work, can be as simple or as elaborate as we wish. A website that simply carries a few poems, a list of publications, a few interviews, etc. is pretty straightforward, and we can get to work on it as soon or as late as you wish. If you need something fairly elaborate, or something, well, stunning, then we'll need a week or two, of course :-)

We look forward to working with you!
