We Killed the Flower The flower on the balcony grew for months until it was a many-stemmed conflagration of flowers. Once it started, we had to help it. But it could not support the weight of all our wishes. So the flower died. Now whenever possible, we wish the flower would grow back. And beyond this tragic story of desire gone wrong, the desire of many overpowering the desire of one, beyond all this there is the story of waiting and wishing and not believing. How can this also be the story of a crime? But surely it is. Rebecca Gopoian lives in Queens, New York.
